Websites – cutting through the fluff and glitter!

So you want a website or have one but want to update it…

If you are new to this it’s a bit daunting, but don’t be overwhelmed, it’s not too hard, you just need to find the right support to get you there.

The amazing thing is that there are lots of tools, gadets and options out there to get you where you want to be.  And there are lots of people like myself that can help you create a website that achieves your end goal.

I started a journey six months ago to get a website developed for a personal project of mine.  Now it’s finally happened after many quotes, discussions and lots of frustration.  I ended up creating it myself over the Easter break.  I used word-press, purchased photos/images and add-ons to make it happen, so what does it look like.. well check it out www.eggdonorangels.com.au and it cost me around $700 of course not including my time/hourly rate!

Originally, I was quoted prices from $500 to over $10,000 to build the site.  My quote started with my wish list and to get that, yes it was a bit of work.  What I found was that I achieved the main objective of the website by doing it on my own… but no one told me I could do that or offered the simpler version option.

I know we are all out there to earn/make money for our businesses but what ever happened to cutting through the fluff and glitter for the potential client, being transparent and helping them get what they want for the best price possible.  Now some businesses want the whole package, they want the fluff and glitter and they have the $ budgets to do that.. that’s fine, give them what they want.  But when a small business owner comes to you and says I need this, I am a small business or start up business or NFP, I don’t have a huge budget, can you quote.. Be proactive, think outside the square and offer them a solution for their needs.

Now this website I created not only works but looks pretty good 🙂 My aim was just to get something running and later on if I have more cash flow I may upgrade it but at the moment, it works, it looks good and we have a web presence, that’s a tick for all my current objectives.

Would love to hear your thoughts and comments on this..

Take care, Dianne

UPDATE – Well Egg Donor Angels has been running now for a few years and doing fabulously!  For a very targeted market we have had thousands of visitors since it started and we have lots of couples looking for their Egg Donor Angel and Women offering to be an Egg Donor Angel advertising on the site.  I am really happy with the site, it’s easy to update as this one is, and there are more and more plugins for wordpress sites being developed every month.  The only thing I really want to do is put advertising on the site to generate an income to then advertise for potential donors.  I have found one plugin that does it but it’s not fantastic.
