Social Media, where do I fit in….

So where do I fit in?…..

I started my career in the media, then moved into the wonderful Marketing arena… but I was a traditional marketeer… product and brand management.. now when I look at job ads, there are so many options, what a wonderful world it is now for marketeers…

Of course I knew my way around the Internet, my ex-partner was computer savvy, we had 24bit graphics cards when they first came out and were on bulletin boards from their start up.

Everyone was buzzing about the Internet and  scrambling to get a website happening…..and then suddenly everyone had a wall and was posting and then there was tweeting and binging and linking and.. and… and…

While it’s overwhelming and scary for some, for businesses, organisations and Not For Profits, it’s exciting, fun and wonderful.

Campaigns take on a life of their own now, the stodgy, traditional media like magazine, newspaper, TVC and radio,  don’t have a stranglehold.  Don’t get me wrong, they can still be an integral part of your strategy but there are now lots of  tools to promote your product, brand, business or organisation.

The great news is that you can use social media to create a innovative, creative and exceptional campaign with  minimal cost.  You can tweet, post and blog and if you are offering something of interest or value, others will tweet, post and blog and your message will be heard and re tweeted around the world.

There are some fabulous pages and groups that you can be involved in, take a good look at some of the Linked-In groups and some of my favourites are Social Media Examiner, Social Media Today and Kristi Hines is a guru!

So here I am posting, tweeting, blogging and finding lots of wonderful and fantastic stuff on the web to use…. and I have soooo much more to learn and find.

What social media do you use and how has it worked for your business and campaigns?

Would love to hear from you….

Take care Dianne
